Holy crap...look at this kid! I can't believe a kid is so fat! Call me insensitive--I don't care. So I'm watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. I can't believe these stupid people in Huntington, WV really don't think they have a problem. Um, hello....they're the fattest city in AMERICA! Making mashed potatoes at school with 'potato pearls' is pretty gross. I blame the parents. Like it's that hard to peel potatoes!
Now (on the show) the kids are eating a processed patty of chicken skin, bone and all the gross cuts--because it's in the shape of a nugget! Sick and horrible. I just think of the stuff that I eat weekly and how I'm probably not setting a very good example for Shaun. Well here it is, my own personal revolution. Time to walk the walk. Even with school full time and studying fuller (yep I said it) time, I've got to get us into better eating habits. I guess I'm just going to have to get creative with Shaun, since he refuses to eat any type of solid veggie or fruit. I'm hoping it's just a phase he's going through. What kid doesn't want to eat apple slices?!?! Mine.
So let's see what we can come up with. I'm hoping that maybe I can cook a lot on Sunday and then use the "fresh" stuff for us during the week.
I'm determined that my kid will not be the one that doesn't know the difference between a tomato and a potato. :) And he won't be the one spitting his salad out in the 4th grade because he will be used to eating that kind of stuff for awhile.
Ya, fat people make me feel upset too. Especially kids. It's not fair that they have such horrible influence in their diets. How old is Shaun? You're right to blame the parents. Babies and toddler's are generally willing to try most things...so that is the stage best for introducing new foods and especially healthy foods to their diets. Too bad for those who missed it...but all is not lost. I think your plan is going to work. Just be strong and consistent. Let's get our kids AND OURSELVES in the best shape of our lives...and be healthy, mobile old people ;)
